Raise Our Voices: A Cabaret for Cecilia Chorus

The Cecilia Chorus of New York invites you to an intimate evening of music, celebration, and community on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 at 54 Below, in honor of its landmark 120th anniversary season.

The evening honors Dr. Soon-Young Yoon — anthropologist, feminist leader, and NGO Representative of the International Alliance of Women to the United Nations, and author of Citizen of the World — whose lifelong commitment to justice, equality, and the power of human voices embodies the spirit the Cecilia Chorus has carried since 1906.

Called “reliably venturesome” by The New Yorker and “admirable” by The New York Times, the Cecilia Chorus has performed at Carnegie Hall for over a century. Voices Raised celebrates 120 years of that tradition — and the community of voices that keeps it alive.

Our honoree

Dr. Yoon is an anthropologist, feminist leader, and the NGO Representative of the International Alliance of Women to the United Nations. She is the co-director of the Cities for CEDAW Project. She has worked with UNICEF and the World Health Organization across Asia, Africa, and beyond. She is the author of Citizen of the World and co-author of Making Rights Real for Future Generations.

Soprano

Praised by The New York Times and Opera News, Brandie has graced the stages of the Metropolitan Opera, Seattle Opera, and Carnegie Hall. She is no stranger to the Cecilia Chorus family, and on October 14, she returns to sing for us in the most intimate room she's played in a long time.

MEGAN MOORE
Mezzo Soprano

Winner of the prestigious George London Award, Megan has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan Opera, and Boston Baroque. With what critics call theatrical spark and rapid-fire vocal brilliance, her voice is one of New York's most compelling.

HENRY DRANGEL
Tenor

A first-year student at the Curtis Institute of Music and a Queens native, Henry earned a featured spot on NPR's Tiny Desk concert series at 18 years old. He is exactly the kind of artist the Cecilia Chorus has championed for 120 years: young, gifted, and reaching for something extraordinary.

AMIR FARID
Piano

Winner of the 2006 Australian National Piano Award, Amir has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival, and concert halls across four continents. As a former staff pianist at Juilliard and rehearsal pianist for the New York Philharmonic, he brings a lifetime of collaboration to this stage.
